From the Juror, Amy Hollan:
Best in Show winner, Unapologetically Hopeful by Sarah Andreas, is a beautiful mixed media portrait that captures the vibrancy of the human form and spirit and reminds us even in winter that there is a hopeful springtime in all of us. It is a perfect representation of STCEA’s mission to do good in the world through art, as 20% of the show’s proceeds benefit Journey’s End Refugee Services of Buffalo to help refugees become healthy, independent, and contributing members of the community.
Award of Distinction winners for their creativity and artistic merit include Jaida Mei for her touching tribute to her sister for Waverly, and Rebecca Srubas for her diverse and well-executed portraits in Chrysalis, which features an unusual artistic medium, and Portrait in Gray.
